Audit and Weatherization

DTE Energy launched the Your Energy Savings campaign last year designed to save consumers money on their utilities bills while helping the state of Michigan become energy efficient.

A significant part of this effort is the Residential Audit & Weatherization program that offers MichCon natural gas and Detroit Edison electric heat consumers rebates up to $1,350.

This program has changed from last year and rebates for qualifying updates are now only maximized upon completion of a comprehensive energy audit. These updates could include air sealing, basement wall insulation, band joist insulation, floor/crawl space insulation, above grade wall insulation, ceiling insulation, and window replacement.

This website is designed to easily find tools for this program. Click on the tabs below to find more information such as program details, upcoming events in your area to learn more about energy effient measures, and to download the forms to apply for the program!

Program News and Updates

The new 2010 Program is rolling out June 1st but there have been some changes along the way also. Please see below to find changes or updates that may apply.

Here is the Trade Ally Partner Letter. If you are a Trade Ally or are interested in becoming one, read this!
  • Effective March 15th, the Level 1 Surveys will no longer qualify the recipient to the higher level weatherization rebates. For higher rebate incentives, the applicant must complete a Level 2 or 3 Energy Audit. Lower rebates will continue to be available to all other qualified DTE Energy customers.

  • Effective June 1st, the rebates attributed to air conditioning savings will be removed from the Program. The focus of the weatherization rebates will move to space heating only (Detroit Edison electric or MichCon gas).

  • Effective June 1st, we will begin to enforce the auditor qualification requirements that were planned to occur in January 2010. If you haven't done so, please work on your RESNet and/or BPI certifications.

  • Auditors will be given DTE Energy kits at no cost and can receive $25 for installing them while performing an audit.

  • See rebate chart for changes to qualifying measures and rebate incentives.
    • Please take note of newly enforced minimum square foot and rebate amounts. They have been altered in order to reach 2010 program goals.
    • Customers have a maximum of 45 calendar days from the date of installation or audit to apply for any rebate.
    • Audit bonuses have been changed for the auditors or homeowner receiving rebate Level 2 or 3 Audits to $150 ($75 after initial energy audit/$75 after customer installs at least one qualified measure).

  • Any installation performed after June 1st will be held to the new program rules and guidelines. Any installation performed before June 1st will be subject to the original rebate schedule.

  • Effective June 1st, the "Duct Seal and Insulation" measure and the "Boiler Pipe Wrap" measure have been removed from the program.

  • Effective June 1st, "Air Sealing 20%" and "Air Sealing 40%" have been added to the program rebates.

  • Effective June 1st, you must use the new Rebate Application in order to process your rebate request. We will also require complete information in each category that pertains to your rebate request.
